Important Information re: First Day of School!

Dear LGSD Parents/Guardians:

You may have heard the news that the County of San Diego was removed from the state’s COVID-19 watchlist and wonder what it means for Lemon Grove School District.

While this is encouraging news that will help pave the way for us to reopen our schools this fall, there are also some important things to keep in mind.

These numbers will need to stay within the acceptable range for at least 14 days before schools in San Diego County will be allowed to reopen without a waiver. We will communicate with you once we achieve the 14-day milestone and share the date we will return to school in the Hybrid Learning model. Per our agreement with our bargaining units, we will provide at least a 28-day notice for return.

Knowing that we are all starting in a Distance Learning phase on August 26th, we have important information to share with you about how you can get your student ready for a strong start to the school year.

1. Roadmap to Reopening - LGSD Framework for Return-to-School

Please take time to review this comprehensive document that outlines the important factors you should be aware of for the start of the school year.

Link (English & Spanish): Roadmap to Reopening

2. Chromebook Devices and Internet Connectivity

The Lemon Grove School District wants every child to have a dedicated device to use for distance learning. Any families that currently do not have a dedicated device for each child enrolled in the Lemon Grove School District are highly encouraged to complete the Chromebook Request form.

Families completing the form that indicate that they do not have home internet are encouraged to complete the Cox Connect 2 Compete application form.

Any families that would like help completing the Cox Connect 2 Compete form can reach out to the Lemon Grove School District by emailing [email protected] or by calling 619-825-5600, ext. 3000.

3. Class Schedules, Teacher Assignments, Device and Materials Pick-up

Your school site will communicate directly with you in the coming days to share the process and schedule for picking up school-provided instructional materials and student device (if you don’t already have a computer device). We have received many inquiries about what teacher your student will have and class schedules for the middle school. This information will be communicated directly from your school site principal, the day before school starts (as has been our practice in previous school years).

Instructional Material & Device Pick up:

Date: Tuesday, August 25th

Location: Your student’s school site of enrollment

Time: Communication is being sent by your school site for the exact window for pick-up

4. The First Week of School - Connection, Routines, and Assessments

We have designed the first week of school in the format of what we call a “Bootcamp for Connection”. We want you as a student/family unit to connect socially and emotionally in order to begin building relationships with your teacher and classmates. We also want to take these first few days and help you, as a parent, understand the instructional schedule, make sure you are digitally connected with your device, Zoom, Google Classroom, and our various instructional apps.

I appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we adjust to these ever-changing conditions. If you have any questions, please consider (1) emailing us at [email protected], (2) contacting your school site, or (3) calling our district office at 619-825-5600.

Sincerely,

Erica Balakian
